We look back on such an inspiring evening on transgender and intersex rights at Bibliotheek Utrecht! On Wednesday December 11th we welcomed you to an educational event on LGBTQIA+ rights, with a film screening of Lola Vers La Mer and a interview with human rights defender Tsano from Zimbabwe.
The evening featured a screening of Lola Vers La Mer, a Belgian movie about identity, family, and acceptance. The story follows Lola, a transgender girl, and her father as they journey to the coast to scatter the ashes of Lola’s mother. Along the way, they confront their shared grief, strained relationship, and unresolved feelings about Lola’s transition.
The movie was followed by an inspiring talk by Tsano, our Shelter City Utrecht guest and director of Trans Smart. Tsano shared her courageous journey of fighting for human rights in Zimbabwe, providing healthcare, shelter, and education for the transgender and intersex community, and spreading awareness through collaboration with local leaders and hospitals.
We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Tsano for her powerful testimony, to the attendees for their active participation in the discussion, de Bibliotheek Neude for hosting this event, Vfonds and Haëlla Stichting for supporting us, our partners Gemeente Utrecht , Justice & Peace Netherlands, Utrecht University and of course all our volunteers making this evening possible!
